Night Temperatures Rise, Settle Above Normal in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, May 16: As forecasts indicate no significant weather activity until May 25, night temperatures have surged, settling above normal in the region of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar witnessed a low of 13.6°C compared to 10.5°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 2.2°C above the summer capital’s typical temperatures for this period.
Qazigund registered a minimum of 10.6°C against 8.0°C previously, marking a 0.4°C rise above the usual for this gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, experienced a low of 7.0°C versus 4.6°C the night before, exceeding normal temperatures by 1.1°C.
Similarly, Kokernag, also situated in south Kashmir, noted a minimum temperature of 10.1°C, showing a 1.1°C increase from the previous night.
Meanwhile, Kupwara town maintained a minimum of 10.1°C, consistent with its typical temperatures, while Gulmarg, the internationally acclaimed skiing destination in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded a minimum of 8.5°C, marking a 1.7°C deviation from the usual.
In Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, temperatures settled at 24.6°C compared to 21.0°C the previous night, surpassing normal levels by 0.5°C. Other regions like Banihal recorded a low of 10.6°C, Batote 14.3°C, and Bhaderwah 9.8°C, according to the official.
In terms of the forecast, the official stated that mainly dry weather is anticipated until May 17. From May 18-19, generally cloudy conditions with light rain or thunder are expected at isolated to scattered locations in the afternoon for a brief period. Subsequently, from May 20-25, generally dry weather is forecasted with no significant weather activity expected until May 25. (IK)
