Meteorological Department Predicts Light to Moderate Rain in J&K, Urges Farmers to Suspend Farm Operations Till April 16
Srinagar, April 13 (IK): The Meteorological Department issued a weather advisory on Saturday, urging farmers in Jammu and Kashmir to suspend farm operations until April 16. The department forecasted light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher reaches at multiple locations across the region.
An official from the meteorological department informed Insight Kashmir that there is a possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds at isolated places from April 13-14. Additionally, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain or snow in higher reaches is expected at many places during April 15 evening to April 16 morning.
Between April 17-18, generally dry weather is expected, although there is a chance of late afternoon thundershower activity at a few places. Partly cloudy weather with light rain or snow in upper reaches is anticipated at many places during the evening of April 19 to April 20 morning.
From April 21-23, generally dry weather is forecasted, but afternoon thundershower activity has not been ruled out. The advisory strongly recommends farmers to suspend farm operations until April 16 to avoid potential disruptions due to inclement weather.
The official also highlighted potential temporary disruptions of surface transportation over a few higher reaches during April 13-14. Moreover, there may be temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas, as well as the possibility of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones.
In terms of temperature, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 10.2°C, Qazigund recorded 7.2°C, Pahalgam recorded 3.2°C, Kokernag recorded 7.7°C, Kupwara recorded 9.0°C, and Gulmarg recorded 2.6°C. Additionally, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 20.5°C, while Banihal recorded 9.8°C, Batote 12.5°C, and Bhaderwah 9.0°C, all showing variations from normal temperatures for this time of the year.
