Meteorological Forecast: Jammu and Kashmir Braces for Weather Fluctuations

Beginning with the immediate forecast, Jammu and Kashmir are slated to experience primarily dry and “hot” weather until May 10, with the possibility of afternoon thundershowers in select areas. However, come May 11, the landscape is expected to shift, with partly to generally cloudy weather on the horizon, accompanied by light rain and thunder anticipated in scattered locations.
Looking further ahead, May 12 brings a projection of generally cloudy conditions across the region. Here, light rain or snow is expected in higher elevations, alongside thunder activity in select areas. Temperature-wise, Srinagar, the heart of the region, recorded a low of 10.5°C, slightly below the seasonal average. Similarly, Qazigund maintained a minimum of 9.0°C, also below normal. Conversely, Pahalgam saw a relatively warmer low of 5.8°C, above normal, with Kokernag experiencing 10.3°C, slightly above the seasonal average. Kupwara and Gulmarg observed lows of 8.6°C and 7.6°C respectively, with both locations slightly deviating from the usual temperatures.
Transitioning to the Jammu region, temperatures dipped to 22.1°C, notably below normal. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah followed suit, with respective lows of 11.8°C, 15.0°C, and 11.6°C. Thundershower activity during the afternoon is expected in select areas until May 10, while subsequent days are likely to feature partly to generally cloudy weather. Additionally, light rain or snow is forecasted in higher elevations, adding a layer of complexity to the weather dynamics.
