Night Temperatures Rise Across Jammu and Kashmir, Yet Remain Below Normal
Srinagar, April 23: Night temperatures witnessed a notable increase across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, excluding Kupwara and Bhaderwah, though they remained below the seasonal average on Tuesday, officials reported.
According to a meteorological department official in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature rose to 8.2°C compared to 6.7°C the previous night, still registering 0.7°C below the usual for this time of year.
In Qazigund, a gateway town to the Kashmir valley, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.4°C, up from 4.8°C the previous night, yet remaining 2.1°C below normal.
Pahalgam, renowned for its picturesque landscapes in south Kashmir, experienced a low of 2.4°C, slightly above the previous night’s 1.9°C but still 1.6°C below the seasonal average. Similarly, Kokernag, another scenic destination in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 5.5°C, marginally higher than the previous night’s 5.4°C, yet 2.1°C below normal.
However, Kupwara town saw a dip in temperatures, with a low of 6.2°C compared to 6.5°C the previous night, registering 1.4°C below normal. Meanwhile, Gulmarg, famed for its world-class skiing slopes in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, experienced a low of 1.0°C, significantly lower than the previous night’s 0.2°C, and remained 2.3°C below normal.
In the winter capital of Jammu, the minimum temperature stood at 19.1°C, slightly below the previous night’s 18.8°C, marking a 1.9°C deviation from the seasonal average. Other regions like Banihal recorded a low of 9.0°C, Batote 11.1°C, and Bhaderwah 7.4°C, according to the official.
Wet Spell Predicted by Meteorological Department
Looking ahead, the meteorological department forecasts generally dry weather until April 25, with a possibility of isolated afternoon thundershowers or hailstorms. From April 26 to 28, generally cloudy weather is anticipated, accompanied by light to moderate rain and light snowfall over higher altitudes, with thunder expected in most areas. The period from April 29 to 30 is expected to see generally cloudy conditions with light rain and thunder across many places in the region. (IK)
