In a concerning turn of events, a leopard was discovered deceased in Central Kashmir’s Budgam village on Monday. This incident follows closely on the heels of multiple sightings of a leopard in various parts of Budgam.
According to Budgam’s Wild Life Officer, Bashir Ahmed, locals from Ichgam village alerted the authorities about the presence of a dead leopard near Bearkah. Responding swiftly, a wildlife team from Budgam promptly reached the location and retrieved the leopard’s body.
Initial investigations suggest that the leopard’s demise may be attributed to natural causes. “The exact cause of death remains undetermined. The animal’s carcass has been dispatched for postmortem examination,” stated the Wildlife Officer.
Notably, recent times have witnessed sporadic sightings of leopards in Budgam villages, heightening concerns about human-wildlife interactions. “With the discovery of this carcass, the possibility of other leopards in the vicinity cannot be discounted,” cautioned an official speaking to INSIGHT KASHMIR.
