District Magistrate, Jammu Bans Drone and Aircraft Activities Amid Security Concerns
In light of potential security threats posed by the use of drones, remote-controlled micro-light aircraft, and para-gliders by terrorist and anti-national elements, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, IAS District Magistrate, Jammu, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973.
Effective from February 17, 2024, until February 20, 2024, the order prohibits the operation of drones, remote-controlled micro-light aircrafts, para-gliders, para-motors, hand gliders, hot air balloons, etc., within the jurisdiction of Jammu. Exceptions are made for aerial surveillance by security forces assigned to VVIP visits or with specific written permission from the District Magistrate’s office. Notably, the order does not apply to Defense/Para Military Forces.
Any violation of this order will result in punitive action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Since individual notices cannot be served to all concerned parties, the order is passed ex-parte.
The order will be disseminated to the public through insightkashmir.com, prominent newspapers, and by posting copies on notice boards at the offices of SSP Jammu, all SDMs, all Tehsildars, all SDPOs, and all SHOs in District Jammu.
Issued on February 16, 2024, this order aims to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order in the region.
