In a bid to bolster support for traditional craftsmen and local artisans across the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the “PM Vishwakarma Yojana Scheme” on September 17, 2023. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to skilled individuals at a low-interest rate without the need for collateral. With a budget allocation of Rs 13,000 to 15,000 crore over five years, the project is poised to benefit approximately 30 lakh households of artisans and craftspeople.
Eligibility Criteria for Vishwakarma Yojana
Under the Vishwakarma Yojana, eligibility is extended to any self-employed artisan or craftsman engaged in traditional trades within the unorganized sector. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and actively involved in their respective trades without having availed of any previous government loans. Benefits under the scheme will be extended to one family member, including spouses and unmarried children.
